This is the original book written in 1994 about the death of Charlie Howard. It contains 339 pages including a complete court transcript at the
back of the book. It took the author seven years to complete the writing.
Over twenty interviews were conducted including the judge in the
case who is now deceased. People who have read the book have said they "could not put it down."
The author has stated that he wrote the book to
try to prevent other such incidents from occurring and that it has been his intention through the years to have this book as mandatory reading for
every 6th grade class in the United States.
He contends that prejudice and hatred and bigotry are learned behaviors that can be overcome by education
and that by reading and discussing PENITENCE in class it can help to prevent these type of incidents.
Could Columbine and other school shooting incidents have been prevented? Could some of the harassment and discrimination lawsuits that School
Districts around the country have found themselves embroiled in have been avoided? The author thinks this is quite possible.
"Kids have found the reading of this book to be very interesting, moving and stimulating" the author has stated.
